A ESEG – Etapa Group College On June 15th, it received a group of students from the 3rd year of High School. Etapa School for a true immersion in the professional world during the Experience ESEG Engineering. The event involved faculty members who presented a glimpse into the daily life of the course and career paths in the field.

The event involved activities from the courses of Computer Engineering (whose focus is on learning about networks, systems and programs, as well as hardware development) and Production Engineering (focused on optimizing processes involving technology, machines, and people).

In the morning, the students were welcomed with a Welcome coffee Following the presentation of the day's activities, the participants were divided into groups and given three proposed challenges. Each challenge had a specific point value that was added up and converted into prizes at the end of the day.

The members of the group with the highest scores received as a prize a scholarship of 80% valid for the entire undergraduate course at ESEG – Etapa Group College. The runners-up received 70% in scholarship money.

EXPERIENCE ESEG ENGINEERING

On Saturday, the teenagers were able to learn more about the studies of Engineering, to put some activities into practice and gain a clearer vision of what awaits them should they wish to pursue this career path.

According to Professor Fernando Kakugawa, coordinator of the courses of Computer and Production Engineering at ESEG, The project aimed to give students the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an engineering course. “Instead of simply talking about what engineering entails, we were able to give students this hands-on experience of the subjects and challenges of the corporate world. It was a way for students to savor and understand how high school skills will help them in higher education, as well as understand their talents and how to leverage them in higher education,” he highlighted.

The day's activities were divided into three challenge cycles:

  • Challenge 1: “robocode”.

The students had to develop code for a virtual robot. Through programming, they defined aspects such as movement speed, number of shots, cannon spin angle, etc. Then, the robots dueled and earned points based on their durability during combat.

  • Challenge 2: Computational efficiency.

In this activity, students had to develop a program using the Python programming language. From this, they had to analyze which sorting algorithm was most suitable for sorting a database with 5 million records. The goal was to verify if the sorting algorithm had the best execution time.

  • Challenge 3: Process simulation.

In this stage, the production of sheet metal stamping in a factory was designed. The students were responsible for structuring a process for organizing the machines for efficient manufacturing and had to optimize production and avoid a queue, or inventory production, between stages of factory production.

Each stage of these challenges generated points. Criteria such as speed of delivery, adaptation to the rules, placement in the competition, and suitability to the formats were evaluated. After the completion of all the tests, the points were added up and the groups with the highest scores were awarded prizes.

In the end, the participants had a broad experience in each of the areas of Engineering and were able to gain a better understanding of the difference between Computing e Production. Although interconnected by technology, these areas can have quite different purposes. By participating in activities like this, the student can understand what makes the most sense to them and what they enjoy most.

EVALUATING YOUR PERSONAL FUTURE

Practical activities such as Experience ESEG Engineering These workshops allow students who are in the career decision-making phase to better understand their ideas and choices about a particular profession. During this type of process, students can discover themselves in a profession or understand if their choice is truly the right path.

This is exactly what the professor reinforces. Simone Ferreira Gonçalves da Mota, coordinator of Etapa School"At that age, students still have uncertainties, there's a little doubt. Am I making the right choice? Can I understand myself, can I adapt? Can I take ownership of this space? That's why this experience that we developed in..." ESEG It's fundamental. It provides security, knowledge, and comfort that will be important later on. They will be able to speak with more authority, with more peace of mind, and truly know if the area they are focusing on is the one that will make them happy in the future.”.

That was the case of Carolina Ribeiro Baptista, a student at Colégio Etapa in Vila Mariana. For her, who plans to pursue studies in the field of Engineering, the Experience ESEG Engineering It was a way to understand more about the field. "I came with an open mind to get a glimpse of the area I was really interested in, even though I already had some knowledge of it. It's good to have this contact with the future profession, as it gives you more confidence," the student reflected.

She even realized during the event that a "preconceived certainty" she had about her desired field could change as a result of this experimentation. "I had a vision of engineering based on logical reasoning. Before, I wanted Chemical Engineering. But now, I'm a little hesitant about perhaps deciding to... Production Engineering, "The activities were a bit more interesting. Perhaps it's a broader field that I'd like to pursue. The event ended up giving me a lot of confidence," Carolina pointed out.

For the teacher Kakugawa, It's gratifying to see the event's outcome for the high school students: "I usually say that we organize the event for the students, but those of us behind the scenes also learn from them. They are a generation eager to do things, to take their talents and make themselves available to society to improve those talents. It's very motivating, very stimulating, to see that desire among them.".

O Experience ESEG Engineering This is part of a series of events promoted by the Faculty for students of Colégio Etapa. This year, there was also an edition of... Experience ESEG Business, where students were able to explore the Business Administration and Economics course. In 2023, the program debuted with... Experience ESEG Law
