Computer Engineering students from ESEG College participated in the SBC Programming Marathon on August 29, 2026, held at the B3 headquarters in São Paulo. The competition brought together students from different institutions for a day dedicated to solving computational problems, logical reasoning, strategy, and teamwork.

The students were accompanied by Professor Bruno de A. Iizuka Moritani, a lecturer in the course of Computer Engineering. ESEG was represented by three teams in the São Paulo regional competition. The team 7x1WasJustADream, The team, formed by Lucas Piccoli Alves, Maxim Teinze, and Victor Pacheco Lima, solved three problems and achieved 28th place among the 50 teams in the regional competition, as well as 454th position in the national ranking.

The team Removed the O(n) from C#, The team, composed of Gustavo Yukio Nakano, Ramon Veloso Vieira, and Vinicius Nemet Polli, solved two problems and finished the competition in 31st place regionally and 510th place nationally. The third team, Pointer for what?, Formed by Felipe Monti Mariano, Henrique Zanchin, and Rafaela Lima Castro, they solved a problem and finished 44th in the regional competition and 830th in the national ranking.

Considering the best performance of each individual institution, ESEG achieved the Ranked 8th among private institutions in the São Paulo region.

Programming, strategy, and teamwork.

During the competition, the teams had to solve a series of computational problems within a set time. The challenge demanded not only programming knowledge from the students, but also logical reasoning, concentration, strategy, time management, and collaboration.

To Henrique Rodrigues Zanchin, According to [Name], a 5th-semester Computer Engineering student, the experience put to the test the knowledge he had developed throughout his studies.

“I really enjoyed participating in the competition. Being in an event where teams compete for something of value, like a ranking, is exciting. The competition puts everything you've learned in the process up to the final day to the test,” Henrique highlighted.

According to the student, in addition to mastering algorithms and programming languages, the competition requires the ability to break down complex problems into smaller parts and solve them one by one until the answer is reached.

To Victor Pacheco Lima, For fourth-semester Computer Engineering students, participation also represented an opportunity to apply knowledge developed during the course in practice and in the field. Speedy Coders, This was the student's first time participating in a programming marathon, an initiative of ESEG Tech & Business.

“Participating in the Programming Marathon was an excellent experience, allowing me to engage with the largest programming competition in Latin America and put into practice the programming skills I learned during my Computer Engineering course and with Speedy Coders,” reports the student.

Victor also highlights the opportunity to represent ESEG in an environment of great relevance to the technology sector. For him, being in B3 And having contact with companies and startups during the event were some of the most memorable aspects of the experience.

Experience that contributes to training.

In addition to the results achieved in the competition, participation provided students with an opportunity to experience situations that bridge academic knowledge with practical challenges in the field of computing.

Victor emphasizes that the experience contributed to the development of behavioral and technical skills in the search for efficient solutions to complex problems.

“During the competition, we learned to work as a team, program under pressure, and face the diverse challenges involved in modern computing, such as efficiency and algorithm optimization,” says Victor.

For the student, experiences like this also broaden their preparation for professional challenges, allowing them to develop problem-solving skills and connect with companies and other professionals in the field.

The experience was also significant for Vinicius Nemet Polli, from the 7th semester of Computer Engineering at ESEG, who had already participated in the competition the previous year. According to him, the prior experience brought more peace of mind to the team and allowed them to see an improvement in their performance.

“Having prior experience provided more peace of mind, and we saw that when our team submitted their first question in just 7 minutes. A huge difference compared to the 40 minutes it took us last year! The teams spent 5 hours straight poring over code and reasoning,” the student reported.

For Vinicius, the competition showed that programming goes beyond writing code. Strategy, time management, and the ability to select the most appropriate problems to solve are also fundamental to the teams' performance.

“"For our training, this type of marathon is a game-changer. Because it makes us apply in practice those more theoretical concepts of algorithms and data structures that in the day-to-day development don't always seem so relevant, but which make all the difference there," he concluded.

Practical application of academic knowledge

When discussing how the experience contributed to his development, Victor Pacheco highlighted the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment that involves challenges related to solving programming problems and allows him to develop skills applicable to the professional context.

“Being able to participate in the Brazilian Programming Marathon, an experience provided by ESEG College, allows us to develop these skills and gain professional visibility through networking with participating companies and by publicizing the competition results,” he stated.
