On May 17th (Saturday), ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, held another ESEG Experience – Engineering event, this time aimed at 3rd-year high school students from Colégio Etapa.
During the event, students had the opportunity to participate in group competitions that tested their talent, knowledge, and discussion skills in Production Engineering and Computer Engineering. With the goal of experiencing professional life firsthand, the young people were challenged to compete against each other until the winning group was awarded a full scholarship to courses at ESEG College.
According to Victor Lattari, a professor in the Computer Engineering course, the event is quite interesting because students can immerse themselves in the practical activities of an engineer. "In today's event, we provided students with practical activities where they could learn more about the [Computer Engineering] course and how an engineer's daily life works," explains the professor.
Competition
Divided into two parts, the ESEG Experience featured, in its first stage, a competition focused on Production Engineering, in which participants took part in a Manufacturing Process Simulation, a very important part of this area.
Student Carlos Augusto Negreiros was enthusiastic about the initiative: “I really enjoyed the event because we got a good idea of what it's really like to work in the field.” Student Henrique Rizzatti highlighted the value of this type of activity in truly understanding professional practice and expanding their knowledge: “This event is a great help in developing our skills, such as teamwork, which will be necessary in the job market and offers a good perspective on what we will encounter in our daily lives if we pursue this field.”.
The second half of the event focused on the field of Computer Engineering, where students faced two challenges: Proper Machine Functioning and Robot Battle. The first challenge consisted of making a computer function properly and in a more optimized way using programming software. The second challenge put their knowledge of systems development into practice, where groups had to battle using robotic tanks, previously programmed via software, which faced each other live at the end of the activity, with a broadcast to all those present.
Awards
At the end of the day, the organizing team added up the participants' scores in each of the three stages, and the winning group, the one with the most points, was awarded a full scholarship for one of the undergraduate programs at ESEG College for each member.
“I was surprised by the organization of the event and I was pleased with our result. The competition was very exciting, especially at the end,” highlights Chuan Xi Chen, a member of the winning team. His teammate, Gabriel Bannout, also praised the victory: “I really enjoyed participating and, of course, I am very happy with the victory we achieved.”.
For Luana Chamelete, also a member of the winning team, the event contributed greatly to her learning, far beyond the thrill of victory. “I was very excited to participate and, of course, to win! I loved the event, especially because I could put what we learned into practice. I was very anxious when the results were announced and almost freaked out when I saw our group in first place,” the student celebrated.
The following students emerged as winners of the Experience ESEG Engenharias: Chuan Xi Chen, Gabriel de Alcantara Tohme Bannout, Júlia Arakaki Yoshimatsu, Luana Daniela Romão De La Cruz, Luana Mascarenhas Chamelete, and Luís Eduardo Atienza Porto de Abreu.
For ESEG College, initiatives like this allow high school students to experience their aspirations in a practical way. In this way, young people gain a more informed perspective when making decisions about their future careers.
