Exclusive meeting with a BTG Pactual partner connects ESEG students to the financial market.

On April 13th, the ESEG College, Etapa Group, promoted the first edition of “"Coffee with the Market"”, an initiative that brings students closer to prominent professionals for a direct chat about career, market and professional trajectory.

To mark the launch, the guest was Renato Santos, Senior Vice President Director of BTG Pactual and recognized as one of the country's greatest assets according to Forbes.

Featuring a select group of approximately 20 students from the Finance League, and veteran students engaged in Tech & Business initiatives.

The purpose of the meeting was to encourage closer and more informal interaction.

For about an hour, participants were able to interact directly with the guest speaker in an environment designed to encourage questions, reflection, and real connections with the market.

Right at the beginning, Renato shared his journey in the financial market, which spans almost three decades of experience, including areas such as interest rate desks, foreign exchange, and trading.

During the chat, the students raised key issues for those wishing to enter the field, such as necessary certifications, market demands, entry difficulties, and pathways to career advancement within large institutions.

Throughout the conversation, Renato highlighted that growth within institutions such as BTG Pactual It is directly linked to consistency, dedication, and a long-term vision.

“Becoming a partner is a process that can take about 10 years. It’s an ongoing process,” commented Renato.

Among the topics discussed were meritocracy, work routines, the advancement of fintechs, and the growth of the crypto asset market.

Regarding this scenario, the mentor was direct in stating that "it's here to stay and already occupies a relevant space within the strategies of large institutions.".

Another point that caught the students' attention was the practical perspective on a career as a trader.

More than specific training or academic degrees, the professional highlighted behavioral characteristics as fundamental: analytical skills, resilience, concentration, humility in dealing with mistakes, discipline, and a focus on results.

“"When you lose a client's money, that's when you find out if you were born for this," stated the current head of treasury at BTG.

Reinforcing the demands of the field, Renato also emphasized that there is no room for improvisation: performance speaks for itself. In the financial market, it is the result that proves the professional's quality.

Furthermore, the students took the opportunity to ask for practical advice related to their fields of work. Among the recommendations, the importance of entering the job market, regardless of the initial role, and building a consistent career path through dedication and continuous learning was highlighted.

The conversation also opened up space for broader discussions about the global economic landscape, potential opportunities for Brazil in the coming years, and existing gaps in the job market.

According to Renato, despite the challenges, the country has growth potential, especially driven by innovation and the advancement of fintechs.

The quality of the interactions was one of the highlights of the event. The guest himself emphasized the level of the questions asked by the students.

“"The class was very interested, and I had a lot of fun during the conversations. The questions were great, including some about my personal life, which surprised me," commented Renato.

For the students, the more accessible format made all the difference in the experience. Guilherme Nunes, a 7th-semester law student, highlighted the importance of this type of initiative.

“I really enjoy these more personal events because they allow for genuine interaction. Being able to ask questions and connect with someone who has that kind of background is very enriching. For me, it was extremely enriching, especially since I already work in the market and want to get even closer to the financial area,” she emphasized.

Already Vinicius Paixão of Economics course, 7th semester, emphasized the impact of the experience shared by the guest:

“He speaks with a sparkle in his eyes, and that motivates us to continue on this path. He's an inspiration. Furthermore, it was very interesting to understand his perspective on a career as a trader and to realize that there isn't always a single way to get there,” he stated.

The exchange was also valued by alumni of the institution. Rhian Amaral, who holds a degree in Production Engineering from ESEG and is currently a back-office analyst, highlighted the importance of hearing directly from a professional with extensive experience in the sector:

“It was a very enriching lecture. Having access to the perspective of someone with 29 years of market experience greatly broadens our understanding of the sector. Furthermore, his approachable and charismatic demeanor made all the difference in how the content was conveyed,” commented the alumnus.
