On October 22nd, students from ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, had the opportunity to attend a lecture covering important and current topics. Macroeconomics e Environment, with the special participation of the renowned Brazilian economist and Master in Economic Theory Bráulio Borges.
The lecture brought up important discussions for our students. One of the points mentioned was the importance of reducing carbon in the atmosphere, a topic widely debated by world governments, aiming at the preservation of our planet and the reduction of damage to the ozone layer.
According to the speaker, the world is already suffering from the impact of global warming, and some countries are already feeling the negative effects, as is already happening even in Brazil. Each passing year, our country becomes drier, with less rainfall. This is a reflection of the environmental problems surrounding our nation, but which are mainly caused by the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.
However, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. While other countries are chasing "clean energy," focusing on electric cars, which release fewer polluting gases into the environment, Brazil is far ahead in these matters. The country has been investing in "green energy" for at least 10 years, giving it a significant advantage when it comes to decarbonization.
Another striking point in the lecture was when Bráulio stated that Brazil's pollution problems have a single culprit: the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. In his view, cutting down trees indiscriminately causes nature itself to create more carbon dioxide, in addition to making the weather drier and reducing rainfall in our country. By ending deforestation, Brazil could become one of the least polluting countries in the world.
After the lecture, an interaction was opened with the students so they could ask questions and discuss the topics covered. It was an important moment for the students to have direct contact with the expert, motivating them to fully engage with everything that was shared.
Professor Robson Pereira, from the Economics Department at ESEG College, was responsible for inviting Bráulio to give a lecture to the students and enrich the content taught in class. “Bráulio is a well-rounded professional, very versatile, and has the ability to speak well on various economic topics. He enhanced the class by bringing very important research, data, and reflections on this subject, which increasingly needs to be on the agenda of economists and society as a whole,” the professor emphasized.
Finally, Professor Caio Vioto, from the History of Economics department, commented on the relevance of the topics covered during the lecture and the impact on ESEG students: “These are very current topics and increasingly present in our daily lives and in our courses, whether it's Administration or Economics. So, this chat with Bráulio was very enriching for the students, as he is an economist who is very present in the Brazilian public debate, discussing recent economic policy issues.”.
Initiatives like this demonstrate ESEG College's commitment to bringing current topics into the classroom that enhance our students' training, preparing them for today's job market.
