At the invitation of Professor Robson Pereira, from the Economics Department, ESEG College hosted Ivan Montagneri, Coordinator of Investment Analysis and Recommendations at Brasilprev Seguros, on September 14, 2026, for a lecture on Financial Planning, as part of the series of guest speakers for the "Contemporary Topics in Economics" course.

“I come from the finance department of BrasilPrev, with 20 years of experience there. I came to share some knowledge about financial education and planning. I think that today, with so much information available, people mainly want to be informed about investments and everything else. The topics covered here aim for a better understanding of money, how to make better use of it, and how to plan for the future,” explains Ivan about the evening's lecture.

The Importance of Financial Education

The lecture focused primarily on money planning and management, something that, despite being essential in our lives, is often neglected. Since financial education isn't part of everyone's daily routine, the talk served to broaden the students' perspectives and raise their awareness of the importance of discipline when dealing with their assets and finances.

During the event, the guest also raised questions about the real need to buy superfluous things and how to take the first steps to save money and create new income streams.

Thinking about the future

The speaker made it clear that it's never too late to start thinking about saving money. Saving goes far beyond simply accumulating sums of money: it's about thinking about the future. Thinking about retirement can become a sensitive subject, so it's important not to depend on a single source of income.

Ivan offered invaluable tips for planning for the future, such as making long-term investments with financial freedom and retirement in mind. Following this line of reasoning, the ideal approach is to invest in Treasury Direct or private pension plans, which will provide an extra guarantee for the future, in addition to reducing dependence on Social Security.

“I really enjoyed the lecture. Retirement planning has always been a subject I had a lot of doubts about and always put off, but today it helped to clear things up a bit in my mind, and it's something I'm going to research more and I might even invest in it thinking about the future,” says Paulo André, a student in the Business Administration course at ESEG.

Reflection for students

The guest speaker offered several thought-provoking insights that resonated with the audience, prompting students to carefully consider the financial decisions they will make in the future.

The students' participation with questions and doubts made evident their interest and engagement with the topics covered. For Nathalia Aparecida, from the Administration course, the lecture proved very relevant to her future: “I really enjoyed the lecture, I found the topic super relevant. I also learned about other ways to invest for my life in the short and long term.”

For Gustavo Enrico, also a Business Administration student, the lecture not only benefited his career but also his future income prospects. “Today’s lecture was very important for my career because I believe that those of us, at least those starting out in the job market, still have very little income. We are competing for internships, apprenticeships, and even administrative assistant positions in my field,’ he explained.

Beyond career advancement, the topic touched on the personal side, showing students that everything is a matter of habit. “The speaker, Ivan, made it very clear that what we need to have ingrained is habit, and not necessarily the size of our fortunes. From the moment we achieve greater career progression, we can have this habit already ingrained to reap even greater rewards in the future. Therefore, I believe this lecture is one of the most important, especially regarding the perspective of longevity in the Brazilian population today,” concludes Gustavo.
