As part of the May Lecture Series, ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, hosted Paulo Morais, the entrepreneur and founder of Espaçolaser, to give a lecture on entrepreneurship to students from all courses.
ESEG professor Edgard Rodrigues opened the event by speaking about the importance of networking with big names in the market. Following this, a video was shown commemorating the 20th anniversary of Espaçolaser, one of the largest laser hair removal chains in Brazil.
Paulo Morais began his presentation by explaining that the business started in 2004 with a laser machine that was only accessible to the upper class, but that he saw an opportunity for growth and decided to dedicate his efforts and intellect to the brand's future. He then went on to discuss his entire twenty-year journey, highlighting the challenges, opportunities, and risks a company can face.
The speaker presented interesting data when discussing a crisis experienced in 2014. In response, there was a need for renewal, for being present in the day-to-day operations to understand the real needs, as well as the help and experiences of new leaders and partners. Today, the brand has a presence throughout the country, consolidating itself as one of the largest companies in the sector.
“"Money is a great achievement, but the most important capital we can acquire is intellectual capital, because no matter what happens, no one will ever be able to take that away from you," the businessman emphasized.
The story of Espaçolaser shows that success is not something achieved overnight, but rather built with dedication, determination, and discipline. The entrepreneur also highlights the importance of having mentorship and surrounding oneself with those who seek solutions to problems, focusing on people "who make things happen," through skilled employees, technical and behavioral abilities, a change in perspective, and new strategies.
In addition to his story with the hair removal company, Morais also shared some of his experience as an entrepreneur, talking about other companies in which he is a partner or investor. The businessman emphasized that to be successful, a person needs a lot of willpower and must keep in mind that things can go wrong and not turn out as planned. It is important to remember that giving up should never be an option, and the secret is to focus on people. "Results depend on people; processes and technologies are means. And the end is people."“
At the end of the lecture, there was a question and answer session, allowing for closer contact between the guest speaker and the students and viewers who followed the event live online.
The Lecture Series reinforces ESEG College's commitment to teaching and practice, offering a highly valued learning opportunity in the market. This allows students to learn from established professionals. "As a successful entrepreneur, it's very important to have Paulo here at our college, because entrepreneurship is a way to build a career, and it also instills that owner's mentality, something very important nowadays," says Gabriel Gutierrez, a Computer Engineering student.
At ESEG College, the professional future of our students is our priority. With a 98% employability rate, we offer enriching experiences for academic training, preparing our students for the real challenges of the market.
The Lecture Series continues in June, with new special guests and relevant topics for those who want to go further.
