On June 13th and 14th, ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa held the workshop “Simula ESEG – Public Careers”, promoted by the Career Development Center (CDC). The event welcomed public service professionals from the fields of Law, Economics, and Technology, with the aim of presenting students with the main career possibilities, career paths, and how to prepare for competitive exams.
The first day was marked by the presence of Dr. José Rubens Andrade Fonseca Rodrigues, retired prosecutor for the Municipality of São Paulo; Tarcisio dos Santos, member of the Internal Audit Directorate of the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo; and Prof. Ma. Rejane Araújo, professor of Economics at ESEG and commissioned technical advisor to the Secretariat of Finance and Planning of the State of São Paulo.
On that occasion, the students showed considerable interest in the topic related to competitive exams. Tarcisio advised the students to first choose the area and organization they wish to work in, research previous exams, and then begin their studies, even if the official announcement has not yet been published. According to him, studying in advance and consistently is essential not only for passing the exam, but also because knowledge is cumulative and is never lost.
Dr. José Rubens reiterated the importance of talking to public servants in order to analyze whether their activities align with one's goals. Above all, he reinforced the importance of making the most of the knowledge offered by undergraduate professors, since time is precious and irreplaceable. Tarcisio also spoke about the diverse areas he has worked in throughout his 42 years of experience at the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo. This highlighted that public service opens up a vast range of career opportunities, not only for Law students but also for those pursuing other undergraduate degrees at ESEG.
On the second and final day of the meeting, the guests were Prof. Dr. Fernando Umezu, coordinator and lecturer of the Economics course at ESEG and analyst at the Central Bank of Brazil; and Fernando D'Agostini Y Pablos, full-stack developer of the Administrative Management System at the General Coordination of Digital Transformation of the Union.
Professor Dr. Fernando Umezu spoke about his nearly 30-year career in public service and revealed to the students a very interesting initiative from the Central Bank of Brazil. This is the Postgraduate Program, in which the institution finances the studies of its employees, provided that the research topic falls within the list of interests selected by the institution itself. Furthermore, developer Fernando Pablos emphasized that postgraduate courses, such as Specialization, Master's, and Doctorate degrees, increase the employee's remuneration, demonstrating that public management strongly encourages the academic development of its employees.
For the students, the event was very positive, as they had the valuable opportunity to talk with leading professionals in the public service, resolve their main doubts regarding competitive exams, and learn about some of the roles and benefits of the career. It is through learning experiences like this that ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa believes its students will be able to confidently choose the sector they most identify with, whether public or private.
