Simula ESEG brings students together to understand the selection processes.

On June 11th and 12th, ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa held the Simula ESEG, promoted by the Career Development Center (CDC). The theme of this edition was selection processes, with the purpose of helping students (especially those seeking their first job) understand how the process works and become more familiar with each stage.

On the first day, the CDC coordinator, Simone Bortoletto, provided essential guidance on creating a resume and how to conduct oneself during a job interview. The specialist gave an interactive presentation on what is recommended to include and what might be frowned upon by recruiters, in addition to emphasizing the importance of personal demeanor during an interview. “No matter how nice the recruiter is being to you, they are not your friend! Many of them [recruiters] use this technique to make you feel more comfortable, but they are only evaluating aspects of your personality to understand how this might reflect if you were to work for that available position in the company,” warned Simone.

At the end of the presentation, the coordinator showed a video about what not to do in a job interview. The video presented behaviors that the character Júlia had that did not demonstrate professionalism, such as: chewing gum, talking and laughing loudly, playing with her hair, justifying her skills with compliments from relatives, among other situations.

Next, the students were invited to make a one-minute presentation video to put the skills they had learned to the test, and were surprised with the news that, before the lecture on the 12th, they would have a photo session to update their LinkedIn profiles.

On the second day of the workshop, the students participated in a photoshoot to create photos for their professional profiles. Immediately afterwards, the students were invited to participate in a paired activity to simulate one of the stages of the selection process. They stood back to back and received similar materials (tangrams), one with a numbered black and white model and the other in color.

The students were challenged to create identical images based solely on verbal communication. The aim of the activity was to evaluate them as they attempted to arrive at a common result. Through the simulation, they understood what recruiters are observing during the process: personality, characteristics, and traits of who you truly are.

Following the activity, the students attended a lecture by Nube (Brazilian Internship Center) on the topic "What to put on your resume?", where they were able to understand more deeply the importance of the information contained in a resume.

For Simone, workshops like Simula ESEG are fundamental in preparing students for the job market, as they offer a practical and detailed understanding of selection processes and recruiters' expectations. "During the workshop, our students not only learned about resume writing, but also had the opportunity to develop essential skills, such as effective communication and teamwork, to prepare themselves for the challenges of the professional market," highlighted the CDC coordinator.
