Last Friday, May 16th, students from the undergraduate courses in Administration, Economics, Computer Engineering, and Production Engineering at ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, had the opportunity to participate in an inspiring meeting with Fabio Ramos, senior economist at UBS-Brazil, one of world's largest investment banks.

The event focused on building a career in the global economic market and working in leading international financial institutions.

A The opening was conducted by Professor Rejane Araújo., The professor highlighted the importance of providing students with experiences alongside professionals who live the day-to-day realities of the market, as a way to transmit their experiences and also serve as inspiration. “Bringing the senior economist from UBS-Brazil to ESEG fulfilled two of the faculty's goals: combining theory with practice and promoting internationalization. Fabio built an exemplary career at the largest bank in Switzerland, a world leader in managing large fortunes. An inspiring story that certainly contributed to the education of our students,” the professor emphasized.

With a degree in Economics from USP (University of São Paulo), Fabio shared his professional trajectory, marked by strategic stints at consulting firms and investment banks, until reaching a leadership position at UBS BB, the joint venture between UBS and Banco do Brasil.

Currently, he works on preparing economic analyses that influence relevant decisions in the financial market, as demonstrated in the recent report “Latin American Economic Perspectives”, published in May.

During the lecture, the expert explained the current panorama of the Brazilian economy, reflecting on the challenges of a stagflation scenario (an expression used for a period of slow or negative economic growth, where the production of goods and services decreases or stagnates) and the influence of political cycles on growth and investment expectations.

For Vitor Neri, an Economics student, the event was an excellent opportunity for personal enrichment. “The lecture was rich in technical economic content and clarified many doubts about income distribution and economic development, comparing emerging and developed countries. Furthermore, it was a great chance to interact with an extremely technical and qualified professional who demonstrated his daily work and served as an inspiration to us,” he stated.

Furthermore, Fabio offered several tips to students who wish to apply for selection processes at large and international banks and institutions. “In an internship interview, the most important thing is not having professional experience, but showing curiosity, preparation, and explaining what you do productively with your free time. This says a lot about who you are and your potential contribution,” the senior economist emphasized during the event.

The lecture is part of a series of initiatives by ESEG College aimed at bringing its students closer to the job market and broadening their perspective on career opportunities in Brazil and abroad.

For Fabio, this partnership of Closer ties between the academic and financial sectors are essential. for the training of future professionals. “I was very happy to be invited by ESEG to talk to the students about my career path and professional experience. It was a pleasure to share some of my knowledge and offer them some tips,” he stated.
