The aerospace sector is one of the most strategic and promising in the world, bringing together technological advancements, economic activity in the billions, and opportunities for innovation involving multiple areas of knowledge. Therefore, for students and graduates of ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, understanding this universe is essential for working with a future-oriented vision, whether in Brazilian companies or in the international market.
And to enable a more practical understanding aligned with market reality, ESEG College brought in Edson Ito, Embraer's market analysis manager, on April 15th. He offered important insights into the present and future of the sector through his lecture, "The Challenges and Opportunities of the Aerospace Market in the Current Scenario.".
The event was part of the Lecture Series initiative, held monthly by the Faculty, which aims to promote direct contact between students and leading professionals, connecting theory and practice and contributing to an education that goes beyond the classroom.
For Ito, this type of initiative promoted by ESEG is extremely important. “At Embraer, we perceive a distance between universities and companies, but we would like a closer relationship. Events like this make that closer relationship possible,” the speaker emphasized.
During the presentation, Embraer's market analysis manager explained the company's operations, addressing aircraft development and the complex international production chain, with different countries participating in the manufacturing of parts. He also highlighted the main challenges faced by the sector, such as the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shortage of qualified professionals, geopolitical changes, and growing environmental concerns.
One of the highlights of the lecture was the analysis of the influence of the decisions of the current US president, Donald Trump, on the global aerospace sector. According to Edson, the increase in tariffs and the impacts of the pandemic caused significant disruptions, opening space for the growth of new players in the sector, such as China, which has been investing heavily and is emerging as a major competitor.
Despite the challenges, Edson expressed optimism about the future of the industry, especially in terms of employability. With estimates suggesting that the US needs around 60,000 new professionals to balance its aerospace industry, an opportunity arises for engineers and other professionals interested in working in this market from around the world, including Brazilians.
Edson highlighted to the audience this excellent opportunity that arises for ESEG students. “We realize that Brazilian engineers are very good, especially at solving problems. But we need to give these professionals opportunities. Therefore, it's important to keep an eye on this market,” he emphasized.
In addition to engineering students, the lecture's content also sparked interest among students from other fields, such as Business Administration, Economics, and Law. At the end of the meeting, the students participated in a question-and-answer session and demonstrated great engagement.
For Gabriel Arthur, a law student, the lecture was very important in providing context about the sector to the participants. "This event helped us better understand how Brazilian airspace works and also contextualize the history of what made up what we experience today," he commented.
Law student Isabella Santos also highlighted the importance of the initiative, which brings them closer to market professionals: “I think it’s great to have these lectures with special guests. In the case of Embraer, it was very important to have this worldview to learn about areas we are not so used to.”.
At ESEG College, the professional future of our students is our priority. With a 98% employability rate, we continue to offer experiences that enrich academic training and prepare our students for the real challenges of the job market.
The Lecture Series continues next month, with new special guests and relevant topics for those who want to go further.
