What differentiates a high-performing professional from a great leader? For Cristiane Coelho, Country Manager of Glenmark Brazil, the answer lies in the ability to develop people, ask good questions, and build results in a sustainable way.

This is one of the main themes of the new episode of ESEG Talks, a podcast from Faculdade ESEG that is part of the ESEG Tech & Business – Intelligence in Action season. Hosted by Simone Bortoletto, ESEG's Career Coordinator, with the participation of student Henrique Nunes, the conversation addresses the challenges of leadership, career development, and high performance in today's market.

With over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Cristiane shares her career path, which began in the technical area and progressed through commercial, managerial, and executive positions until she reached the leadership of Glenmark's Brazilian operation.

From technical excellence to leadership.

In this episode, Cristiane explains that being an excellent professional doesn't guarantee preparedness to lead teams. When taking on new responsibilities, it's necessary to develop skills such as strategy, influence, communication, and people management.

For her, leadership is built continuously through study, mentorship, self-knowledge, and learning from other professionals.

The conversation also highlights the importance of trust in building high-performing teams. According to Cristiane, trust is built daily through consistency, transparency, and setting a good example.

The executive argues that leaders should create environments in which people can express themselves, exercise their identity, and contribute different perspectives. In this context, psychological safety becomes essential to foster collaboration and innovation.

High performance with responsibility.

Another topic discussed is the balance between results, compliance, and sustainability. Cristiane emphasizes that goals are important for the growth of organizations, but they should not be achieved at any cost.

According to her, decision-making should consider data, experience, and the impact of choices on people and the business. The episode also discusses cognitive biases and the importance of self-awareness for more conscious decisions.

A resume is no longer enough.

For those entering the job market, Cristiane points out that academic training, English, and technical knowledge are fundamental, but are no longer enough to differentiate a professional.

Among the most valued skills, she cites curiosity, the ability to ask questions, self-awareness, resilience, and a willingness to learn continuously.

Artificial intelligence is also part of this transformation. For Cristiane, the efficient use of technology depends on repertoire and knowledge: the better the question, the greater the possibility of obtaining good results.

In the conversation, the executive also recommends that students and young professionals adopt a more conscious approach to their careers. This involves setting goals, identifying gaps, seeking references, building a network, and developing resilience in the face of challenges.

In closing, Cristiane summarizes her vision of leadership: the best leaders are not necessarily those who have all the answers, but those who know how to listen, ask questions, and enhance the talents of each person.
