Last Saturday (September 16th), ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa – held the first edition of the Experience ESEG event, focusing on the field of Law, at its Paraíso campus. On this occasion, students from the 3rd year of High School (EM) at Colégio Etapa – Ana Rosa, Vila Mascote and Valinhos units – learned more about legal practices with ESEG professors, and were also monitored in all activities by undergraduate students.

Professor Simone Motta, a teacher at Colégio Etapa, explained how the event was conceived. “The event has a very beautiful history. Since 2022, we have borrowed ESEG's facilities to hold our Etapa Simulation. This year, a joint idea arose between Etapa and ESEG to create a very similar activity for students intending to study Law. For students preparing for university entrance exams, having a familiar place, like ESEG's facilities, made the activities more productive.”.

According to Professor Luiz Carlos Dias, a teacher at Colégio Etapa, the event also fostered closer ties between law students at ESEG and students in their final year of high school interested in pursuing a career in law. “There’s nothing better than an immersive experience to promote this connection. This activity gave our Etapa students the real opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a lawyer, a judge, or even participate in a debate,” he emphasized.

At this stage, when Etapa students are choosing a career, events like this clarify their doubts and contribute to their decision-making. "Young people who are currently searching, by experiencing an immersion in a typical career event like this, can experience some aspects of what they can develop in the future, and this helps them weigh their vocations and references," reinforces the coordinator of the Law Degree program at ESEG, Professor Fernando Couto.

The event was marked by two important moments. In the morning, three discussions were held on topics important to society: Limits to Humor, Quota Systems, and Regulation of Artificial Intelligence.

“The three morning debates covered not only current topics, but also issues that are the subject of various conversations and are relevant to the university entrance exam. When we connect topics that are part of the students' daily lives, they only stand to gain. They realize that what they hear inside and outside of school, through the media or at home, can become a discussion, a debate. This facilitates not only the university entrance exam process, but above all in life, because we need to take a stand,” emphasized Professor Simone.

Later in the afternoon, right after the lunch break, everyone met in the Leonardo da Vinci Noble Hall at ESEG to watch a simulation of a Supreme Court hearing.

The topic of "Racial Insult" was presented in the format of the Supreme Federal Court, featuring characters such as ministers, jurors, prosecutors, and lawyers. Students from Colégio Etapa, law students, and professors from ESEG participated. Professor Giovanni Pilosio, a law professor, led the event. Professor [Name missing] also participated in the activities. Alexandre Peres Rodrigues. Everyone followed the presentation of the case and was able to hear the different sides, decisions, and objections of those present.

According to Pilosio, ESEG graduates have everything to gain from participating in practical events. “For law students, this event was essential, as they are on a journey to determine which legal career to pursue. This type of event raises various practical issues to provide them with a stronger foundation for their decisions, in addition to allowing closer contact with professionals in the field and professors, enabling a more in-depth view of the profession, in both the public and private sectors,” stated the professor.

Students from ESEG participated in the event as monitors, which, according to coordinator Professor Fernando Couto, is very important for their academic training. “It is through actions like this that they begin to put theoretical learning into practice, in addition to what they develop in internships and other forms of activity. It is the very experience of what they learn in the course. Furthermore, they can guide high school students on what they study in the classroom, in development centers, scientific initiation, and research, taking away the purely theoretical character,” he highlighted.

Isabela Castelhano Garcia, a second-semester law student, confirms the importance of the event for academics. “It was an incredible experience. Today, with my professors and colleagues, in an environment very different from the classroom, I was able to share what we learned and pass on knowledge to others.” Yasmin Rego Marinho, also a second-semester student, added that it was a great experience to be exposed to different opinions, instead of just focusing on the law, and also to overcome her shyness about public speaking.

For Guilherme Sanches, a student at Colégio Etapa, the Experience ESEG – Law event was very enriching for his life. “I was able to experience many different things and participate in debates. The event introduced me to aspects of Law that I didn't know, and I could see that it's what I really want, that it's the right course for my life,” he said.

Simone Motta concludes by saying that the activity was a rich experience. "It was a significant event, very well-structured and very enriching. For students who are going to study Law, the enrichment from this experience is undeniable," she emphasized.
