On May 4th, ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, held the awards ceremony for... ESEG-SBK Hackathon: Lawtech Challenge, in partnership with SBK, one of the largest companies providing intelligent solutions for Legal, HR and Finance.

The initiative, which is part of the program ESEG Tech & Business, brought together groups of students from different courses in a competition with the aim of developing innovative solutions in legal process automation, using real APIs provided by SBK, in situations that simulate day-to-day professional challenges.

Professor of Computer Engineering and Production Engineering, and lead instructor of the ESEG Hackathon, Rodrigo Assirati followed the competition and the students' development and was invited to moderate the awards ceremony. Satisfied with the students' performance, the professor highlighted the two sides of the partnership: while the participants develop themselves based on real-world problems, the companies have the opportunity to observe the students in action.

“Hackathons are always an opportunity to engage with real-world challenges, creating dynamics such as testing new tools, validating ideas, and thinking under pressure. For partner companies, it's also a great chance to see the students' capabilities beyond theory, especially in challenging situations,” explains Assirati.

With a focus on developing a technological solution aimed at automating legal processes, the platforms created by the students used the APIs provided by SBK to transform raw data into interactive and predictive insights, automating complex analyses and generating strategic value for the sector.

The solutions should feature a robust backend, an efficient data pipeline, a user-friendly visualization interface, and a chat or intelligent agent capable of integrating with Lum.IA, SBK's personalized legal advisor, enhancing user interaction with the developed data and functionalities.

Bernardo Franco, CEO of SBK, stated that he was satisfied with the partnership, not only because of the award, but also because of the results already generated: “Our contact with Faculdade ESEG was a very positive experience. We intend to continue this partnership, after all, today we already have employees who were or still are students of the institution.”.

During the evaluation, criteria such as platform usability, creativity in data use, added value to the business, practical applicability, and technical level of development were considered. After the analysis, the ranking of the winning groups of the Hackathon: Lawtech Challenge was defined as follows:

1st Place: PrimeFlow Team (Flow.IA Project)

David Mota – Production Engineering

Fabiano Sannino – Law

Julia Tiemi Aoki – Administration

Rafaela Castro – Computer Engineering

Vinicius Nemet – Computer Engineering

2nd Place: Team X-GHOR (Lex.IA Project)

Gabriel de Jesus Silva – Computer Engineering

Heitor Crema de Melo – Computer Engineering

Marcia Moura – Law

Otávio Bonfochi – Computer Engineering

Raul Dos Santo Caruso Borges – Computer Engineering

One of the winners of the evening, Rafaela Castro, a Computer Engineering student and member of the PrimeFlow team, highlighted the experience beyond the achievement. “Participating was very interesting because it was a way to apply everything I learned in college in practice, in an unusual context, seeking solutions for a market I didn't know. On one hand it was challenging, on the other, extremely enriching,” the student emphasized.

Beyond the competition, the Hackathon contributed to the development of skills such as teamwork, decision-making, and working under pressure—essential competencies for the students' professional journey.

Our recognition goes to the participants and winners for their dedication and the results achieved.
