ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, held last Saturday (23) the 1st ESEG Chess Cup, which brought together students, professors, alumni, staff, and family members for a morning marked by strategy, focus, and integration in the institution's main hall.

With the participation of 20 competitors, the tournament consolidated chess as an important academic and cultural activity, capable of stimulating fundamental skills for academic and professional life, such as logical reasoning, strategic planning, decision-making, focus, and responsibility.

More than just a competition, the event provided an environment for interaction, exchange of experiences, and closer ties between people from different courses and departments of the college, reinforcing ESEG's commitment to initiatives that promote the intellectual and human development of its community.

According to Professor Danilo Bueno, responsible for organizing and arbitrating the tournament, chess plays an important pedagogical and cultural role. “Chess has a pedagogical and cultural purpose, developing relevant cognitive skills such as memorization, decision-making, responsibility for actions taken, and concentration. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to develop concepts related to spatial geometry and calculus,” Bueno emphasizes.

The professor also highlights the connection between the game and the professional world. "People who play chess are usually involved in positions or jobs that require strategy, making it a very relevant activity."“

The experience was praised by the participants. The competition champion, João Pedro Laurenti Silveira Ramos, highlighted the organization and welcoming atmosphere of the event. “I really enjoyed the event, I thought it was great. It was very good to play here with everyone, I was super well received and everything was very well organized. I would like to see future editions, because I really enjoyed the experience.”

The impressive participation and enthusiasm of the competitors reinforce the importance of initiatives that value both intellectual sport and university life. The success of the first edition paves the way for future competitions and for strengthening sports and cultural activities at ESEG College.
