What is Data Science and what are its trends in the job market?

With each passing day, the number of people connected to the internet increases, leaving behind traces of their consumption preferences. This volume of information is studied by Data Science and analyzed by professionals in the field, called Data Scientists.

But what is Data Science?

Data Science, or simply Data Science, is a statistical approach, or disciplined study, that incorporates important elements of computer science and mathematics into its applications to extract insights from qualitative and quantitative data that can have a significant impact on business results.

To put it another way, it's an analysis of all the information inherent to a product, company, or market, and of the different perspectives that can surround the same subject.

The main technologies and tools used for this study are machine learning frameworks, programming languages, algorithms and a combination of knowledge that the scientist possesses.

There are several interconnected disciplines that enable the application of Data Science, and therefore, mastering them is very important for the correct execution of the analysis and presentation of results.

Among the main areas that require these skills and ease in handling them are:

  • Computing;
  • Statistic;
  • Mathematics;
  • Knowledge and business management.

Three Data Science trends in the job market.

It was proven through a report According to Allied Market Research, the trend is for the value of Data Science to companies to increase more and more over the years.

According to this report, in 2020 the Data Science solutions market had a global value of $4.7 billion, and estimates indicate that the market should reach $79.7 billion by 2030.

Therefore, there is a growing interest in hiring professionals who have training and expertise in the subject.

Data Science professionals work in a multidisciplinary way, using data analysis techniques to discover trends, patterns, and relationships between different variables.

Furthermore, they are responsible for creating forecasting models, identifying problems, and proposing solutions to help companies achieve their goals and objectives, keeping them more productive and competitive.

Check out three trends in the use of Data Science in the job market!

  1. Decision-making as a science

Even with the technology and ease of access to information we have today, there are still companies that base their decisions on assumptions or what is called... feeling.

However, nowadays it is no longer appropriate to make decisions in this way. Thus, the need to hire qualified professionals is becoming increasingly urgent.

  1. AI adoption

Artificial intelligence has been increasingly used in a variety of sectors such as healthcare, finance, and retail.

The adoption of artificial intelligence brings numerous growth opportunities for companies, in addition to boosting Data Science initiatives and enabling them to extract value from data.

Therefore, companies are looking for professionals who can implement effective solutions indicated by artificial intelligence.

  1. Real-time Data Analysis

One of the fastest growing trends today is real-time data analysis, a trend that has been helpful in making urgent decisions that determine the success of a business.

Therefore, hiring professionals capable of assisting in this task is of utmost importance.

It is possible to work in areas such as:

  • information Technology;
  • marketing;
  • finances;
  • health;
  • retail;
  • education sector;
  • logistics and others.

What do you learn in a Data Science course?

Students learn to apply the latest statistical and computational methods to complex databases, with the goal of identifying patterns and generating... insights and to make projections.

With this course, students will gain technical knowledge not only in IT, but also in management, innovation, and soft skills, thus becoming well-rounded professionals prepared to operate in today's complex business environment.

It is worth remembering that students at ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, in the Administration, Economics, Computer Engineering, and Production Engineering programs have this certification as part of their curriculum.
