As part of Global Honors Program 2025, On May 13th, Raejean Stokes, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Consulate, gave a lecture to American exchange students and Brazilian students participating in the program. Buddy Program from ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group.

The lecture, given at the invitation of the Institution, addressed the...Brazil's diplomatic relations with the USA today, highlighting how a consulate employee's daily work functions in practice, as well as the importance of this work for the coexistence of the two countries.

Raejean recounted her professional journey at the American Consulate, sharing her experience in various countries, such as Mexico and Turkey, before arriving in Brazil. As part of her service, an Attaché travels to several specific locations within a country over the course of three years. Having been in Brazil for almost a year, the speaker emphasized that the relationship between different nations is beneficial and allows both to grow together.

“Today was a great opportunity for American and Brazilian students to learn more about diplomacy, especially why the U.S. is focused on Brazil and how this strong partnership is viewed with optimism for the future,” the diplomat explained regarding the importance of the lecture for the students.

At the end of the conversation, a question and answer session was opened for those present, a great opportunity to ask questions about the profession and learn more about diplomacy and international relations.

“It’s super important to address this issue, with a friendly and informal conversation and with the presence of the American students. It certainly helped with integration with them, in addition to preparing the ground for the next few days we will spend with them at ESEG,” exclaims Alice Antoniassi, a Law student at the Faculty.

This lecture is part of the Global Honors Program initiative, promoted by ESEG in partnership with Roberts Wesleyan College. Through this program, American students have the opportunity to experience an in-depth multicultural immersion in Brazilian culture, with a rich exchange of knowledge with Brazilian students.

For Kyle Torrey, an exchange student, his stay in Brazil has been incredible, especially with the warm welcome from his Buddies: “So far my experience in Brazil has been amazing. The tours are great and the time we spend here on the ESEG campus is a lot of fun,” reports the student. 

 

For Megan Ramich, in addition to the lecture being important for understanding the relationship between the countries, the excitement about the new culture is incredible: “It’s my first trip abroad, and it’s been a lot of fun here. The lecture helped me get an idea of what to expect from Brazil, and that’s very exciting!”, concludes the student.

The program runs until May 27 And ESEG College has its doors open to Americans.
