ESEG hosts a lecture on flexicurity and the limits of making labor rights more flexible.

Last Thursday, August 11, 2022, ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa hosted a lecture on the topic 'Flexicurity and the limits to the flexibilization of labor rights in times of crisis', given by Professor Giovanni Pilosio. The presentation was aimed at law students, in celebration of Law Student Day, also known as "Lawyer's Day".

Created and developed in Denmark, the concept of flexicurity seeks to unite business interests, through the flexibilization of labor rights, with social protection policies and professional training during unemployment. Faced with successive global economic crises, the model had attracted interest by promising increased productivity in companies. However, after its implementation, flexicurity proved relatively fragile because it did not offer labor rights to everyone, increasing the number of informal work relationships and, consequently, exacerbating social inequality.

The lecture aimed to shed light on the topic and promote debate and reflection among students from the perspective of work as a fundamental right, and not as a commodity.

Professor Giovanni's research topic, "Flexicurity and the Limits of Flexibilizing Labor Rights in Times of Crisis," will be the subject of an academic symposium chaired by the ESEG professor alongside Professor Fernando Couto, coordinator of the Law course, at the VII International Congress on Human Rights held at the University of Coimbra (Portugal), between October 11th and 13th.
