Planning, persistence, and a dream: the international internship.

Have you ever thought about doing a semester-long internship abroad, but wonder how you would be able to balance it with your degree? ESEG, This is a viable reality. Julia dos Santos Sales, a 9th-semester student, will soon be able to take advantage of this opportunity. Production Engineering She is an industrial maintenance intern at a multinational cosmetics company. The young woman is preparing for a trip to Clichy, a French city located northwest of Paris. Julia will continue her internship in France, scheduled to begin in February 2023.

The student emphasizes that she learned about the internship through her work and that ESEG assisted her throughout the entire process. The Student Support area, for example, provided guidance on how to behave during presentations and gave her a foundation of skills that she now puts into practice.

Julia says she is very excited to live this experience. “I will be working with a multicultural team, as they are people from three different continents. So, it will be something very different from what I am used to today. I have always wanted to get to know other countries and understand what the organizational culture is like, and now I will be able to do it,” the student points out. 

A golden tip: planning.

Julia's advice for anyone considering an exchange program, whether for study or work, is to plan. “Put your dreams on paper and turn them into plans and goals. It's not as easy as it seems and it may take longer than we want, but in the end everything works out when it's meant to,” emphasizes the student, who adds: “The first time I tried for this international internship, I wasn't accepted. However, I received an invitation for a new area and, even after a disappointment, I had nothing to lose by trying again. If it didn't work out the first time, there are dozens more chances to succeed. Don't give up!”.

Julia's parents, Erivelton Sales and Patricia Sales, are her biggest supporters. “They believed in me from the beginning, even when I didn't believe it was possible. Without them, I might not have even applied. This will be a very important step for my academic and professional development, as I will be immersed in a new field with people of different customs,” Julia concludes.
