Last Tuesday (26), ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, hosted Dong Lili, Director of International Relations at BFSU (Beijing Foreign Studies University), to give a lecture on the topic “Trade relations between China and the USA and the role of the World Trade Organization”.
The Chinese director brought up discussions about the economic situation of the United States in comparison to China, presenting interesting data on the growth of the Asian country over the last 20 years and drawing parallels with other countries.
Law student Rafael Gomes Assunção was eager for the lecture: “I was very excited about the topic, because seeing the current political context and how everything works, I believe it will be very helpful for us students to learn more about the relationship between China and the United States,” Rafael reported.
In recent years, the global economy has transformed, and with it, new players have emerged thanks to the US economic deficit, which has generated opportunities for emerging countries, such as China, which has been experiencing a surplus for at least 10 years, a reflection of the growing Chinese export market.
Today, 93% of the country's production comes from manufactured goods, such as electric cars, cell phones, and electronics in general. The government has invested in infrastructure and international relations, resulting in partnerships with the world's leading countries, causing the economy to grow. The planning involves exchanges, such as Brazil exporting agricultural products, which are very expensive to produce there, and as a result, Chinese brands invest in Brazilian lands, bringing visibility and further opening up competition in our territories.
“China saw in the American difficulties an opportunity for growth. We take the German economy as an example, which is one of the most renowned in the world. With investments and excellent relations with other nations, we are establishing ourselves as one of the world's great powers,” explains Dong Lili about the strategy used in recent years.
A question-and-answer session was also held for those present at the event, who were able to ask questions directly to the speaker, keeping the audience interested in the topic and generating engagement.
Vanessa Martins, Manager of ESEG International, the internationalization office of ESEG, commented on the presence of the Chinese director in our country: “This type of event is very important for us, as internationalization is now an essential quality mechanism for educational institutions,” emphasized Vanessa.
