On February 12th, Computer Engineering professor Marino Catarino led the workshop "Challenges for the Intelligent Use of Data in the Age of Technology" for students from all courses at ESEG College.

The initiative aimed to showcase the advancement of technology over the years and how Artificial Intelligence is already changing our routines. "Current technology has broken down all barriers in academic training and professional fields. Sectors such as medicine, law, architecture, biology, and even music are already involved in the widespread use of AI and data analysis," the professor noted.

However, the main focus of the workshop was to show students how Generative Artificial Intelligence works, from collecting information to be stored in a database to defining command prompts for image generation, as well as addressing Machine Learning.

“"From using ChatGPT to generating images or analyzing complex spreadsheets, the use of technology is highly relevant to humanity today. Therefore, the sooner students, as future professionals, understand what this evolution is and how best to integrate it into their careers, the more prepared and adapted they will be for the job market," comments the professor.

Divided into two parts, explanation and practice, the workshop tested the students' knowledge of how to integrate data, what machine learning is, and what Artificial Intelligence is, so that those present could immerse themselves in this revolutionary universe.

The students were able to see how image recognition and a neural network work, gaining insight into key aspects of 21st-century technology. "It's necessary to break down the barrier that technology is a field restricted to STEM fields and correctly understand the importance of these assets in the future of various professions," explains Catarino.

At the end of the workshop, the students were able to see, in practice, the entire logical process of an AI, gaining a better understanding of the challenges that arise every day with the constant technological advancements in our daily lives.

ESEG College is committed to transforming our students into outstanding professionals. Actions like this demonstrate how bringing theory and practice into alignment is at the heart of ESEG, making a real difference in learning.
