As part of the Integrated Project 1 course for the Administration and Economics programs at ESEG College, on September 3rd, students were able to participate in an exclusive lecture on game development.
The aim of this course is to encourage students, in groups, to conduct in-depth research on financial education topics, with the goal of developing games that contribute to the financial literacy of young people.
The event was a partnership with Editora Devir, one of the leading Brazilian companies specializing in board games and RPGs, founded in 1987, with a presence in English, Spanish, and Japanese-speaking countries. The publisher has made accessible cultural movements that did not exist outside the countries where they were originally created, seeking to develop the markets of imagination and everything related to fantasy, adventure, science fiction, games, and comics.
The event was organized by Professor Maurício Nakahodo, the professor responsible for teaching the subject this semester, who explained the purpose of the lecture: “This collaboration with Devir allowed us to understand two complementary dimensions of the use of games in the educational process. First, we discussed the pedagogical potential of applying comic books, RPGs, and board games as learning tools. Then, a renowned developer shared his journey in creating dozens of games, offering tips on how to transform ideas into impactful playful experiences.”.
During the lecture, the students understood that the use of comic books, RPGs (Role-Playing Games), board games, and video games in education goes far beyond simple entertainment. These resources are powerful tools with great pedagogical potential, as they promote active, engaging, and collaborative learning, transforming the personal development process into a more interactive and meaningful experience. They become tools that stimulate collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, making the student the protagonist of their own learning.
According to Professor Maurício, this experience is directly connected to the Integrative Project 1, which seeks to make financial education more accessible through innovative methodologies. "In this context, games stand out as an active learning methodology resource, favoring the understanding and experience of financial concepts, as well as bringing the topic closer to the reality of young people and society in an engaging and practical way," emphasizes the professor.
At the end of the event, Devir donated games to the students and to the Faculty for use in the academic environment.
Partnerships like this highlight the importance that ESEG College places on practical learning, focusing primarily on the personal and professional growth of students.
