On the morning of August 27th, ESEG College, part of the Etapa group, hosted aerospace engineer and entrepreneur Lucas Fonseca, one of the most influential names in the Brazilian aerospace industry, for another edition of its Lecture Series. The opening was conducted by Professor Edgard Rodrigues, from the Administration course.

With extensive international experience, Lucas participated in the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission, being the only Latin American on the team that made possible the historic landing of the Philae probe on a comet. In Brazil, he leads the Garatéa lunar mission, the first national initiative to send a scientific payload to the Moon, in addition to founding the startup Airvantis, which connects science, innovation, and economic development in the space sector.

During his speech, the guest speaker highlighted that the space economy will be one of the biggest economic drivers of the future, propelled by the NewSpace movement, which democratizes access to space and creates opportunities for startups, companies, and researchers.

Lucas explained that space exploration goes far beyond scientific research, directly impacting areas such as communication, climate monitoring, the pharmaceutical industry, and technological development: "GPS, medicines, tissues, and even the internet we use daily have their foundations in space.".

Another point discussed was the importance of sustainability and innovation in large aerospace companies, which are constantly seeking new technologies to reduce costs and expand possibilities. According to him, space is no longer just a distant dream, but a strategic reality for global development.

For students interested in pursuing a career in the sector, Lucas advised that the first step is to engage in scientific research during their undergraduate studies and, whenever possible, seek internships and exchange programs at institutions and countries with a tradition in the space field. "It's crucial that the new generation knows that they can, indeed, be a part of this world," the expert emphasized.

The meeting reinforced the Lecture Series' mission of bringing current and inspiring topics, connecting students to the transformations that are shaping the future.
