Professional Journey: Economics Student Talks About Preparing for the Job Market

Arthur Maia, a 6th-semester Economics student here at ESEG College, part of the Etapa Group, is currently an intern in the administrative sector at Hang Tung, a private investment group based in the textile trade in Asia.

Throughout his time at ESEG, the young man became involved in several employability initiatives, which helped him grow professionally. "I grew a lot professionally, I can adapt much better to a work environment and understand more about what is required in finance departments," he says.

Before practical experience, theoretical learning is highly relevant in students' lives. It is when they are practicing the profession that students understand the importance of the preparatory academic projects at ESEG. "The internship experience has been a tremendous learning opportunity. I've been able to put many finance concepts and accounting lessons into practice," the young man emphasizes.

Arthur is yet another example of a student who absorbed tips and advice and used them to his advantage to grow professionally. "Here at the company, at the end of each month I have to coordinate with accounting and financial consulting regarding paid accounts and how we can prepare the income statement and cash flow statement," explains Arthur.

At our college, it's possible to participate in Simula ESEG, an initiative that prepares young people to access great opportunities in the job market.

With Simula ESEG, students have the opportunity to learn how to create a resume, participate in mock job interviews, take part in group dynamics exercises, and ask questions about the corporate world. Besides being an excellent initiative, the project is making a difference in people's lives, as in Arthur's case.

“When I participated in Simula ESEG, I was able to get important tips on interviews and resumes, and participate in a group dynamics simulation. I feel that the project helps a lot. In addition, the Career Development Center provided exclusive times if I needed an individual interview simulation, allowing me to better understand each question asked and what an interviewer wants to look for,” shares the student.

Arthur's experiences only demonstrate the importance that ESEG College places on its students. The Simula ESEG project has been helping many students understand how the job market works and how to be better prepared for the challenges of the corporate world, overcoming fears and anxieties.

“"For me, Simula ESEG is very important. Through it, I currently feel much more confident about how to speak and behave in a job interview," adds Arthur.

Arthur's story helps inspire other young people to become even more involved in the initiatives promoted by ESEG College and, thus, enter the job market without fear.
