Professional Journey: Economics Student Shares How He Achieved a Position at Azul Airlines

Crossing the boundary between academic life and the professional environment is a challenge for graduating students. This transitional moment where theoretical knowledge and practical applications meet is crucial. Uriel Vitória Defende, a 4th-semester Economics student at ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa, has continuously dedicated himself to building a successful career, and this determination has enabled him to join one of the leading airlines in the country, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras.

Before entering college, Uriel took a Junior Business Management course and had the opportunity to work at Banco Cetelem, specifically in the Operations sector, focusing on Operational Efficiency Control. For the student, this period was fundamental in his choice to study Economics.

“Process automation and the creation of presentations for the team were highly beneficial aspects for my professional development. Thus, my experience at Banco Cetelem confirmed that I was on the right track before joining ESEG, proving what I already knew, as well as what I needed to learn and improve,” shares the student.

Currently, Uriel works as an assistant in the Controllership sector of the Finance area at Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras. “All my expectations were exceeded! As I had already been an intern, I decided to apply for an assistant position. It was an incredible surprise to advance through all the stages and, in the end, be selected for a position I hadn't even imagined, thus becoming a full-time employee,” Uriel recounts.

The student's story with Azul began with an email he received from the Career Development Center (CDC) at ESEG. Students receive a weekly newsletter curated with the most interesting job openings. "When I saw the email from ESEG, I thought, 'Imagine if I get this job and can share it with my college and classmates?!' And that's exactly what happened," he recounts enthusiastically.

Uriel Vitória Defende's account is a testament to the importance of preparing students for the job market during their undergraduate studies. ESEG continues to provide its students with the necessary tools to face the challenges of the professional world, ensuring they are well-prepared for success in their respective fields.
