The beginning of one's professional journey is a time of discovery and opportunity. It's when the first steps are taken towards a future full of challenges and achievements. It's at this stage that dreams begin to transform into reality.
In the life story of Vitória Barbosa Ribeiro, a 4th-semester Economics student, this moment has arrived. Her first step in building her career was securing an internship in the supply chain area at Deloitte.
For her, the experience has been fascinating, revealing, and intense. "On a daily basis, I am immersed in a rich corporate culture that values individual growth and ethical development, with a rigorous compliance and security structure," says the young woman.
As this is her first job, the student is motivated when talking about her routine and shows spirit in being able to give her best. “I confess that the work is demanding. The high demand and responsibility to clients require dedication and resilience. However, it is precisely this intensity that makes the learning more valuable. I feel grateful for the opportunity to improve my skills in such a welcoming and enriching environment, where the support among colleagues is constant and genuine,” she says.
Vitória learned about the vacancy from the announcement made by the Career Development Center (CDC) and felt prepared to apply, as she had already participated in two semesters of Simula ESEG, an employability event promoted by the Faculty, whose purpose is to prepare students for interviews, selection processes and the job market.
“"ESEG plays an essential role in my development. The college offers us an environment that strengthens our confidence to achieve our dream job and motivates us to grow, both professionally and personally," says the student.
In her daily professional life, Vitória says she puts into practice many of the lessons learned in the classroom, which has been rewarding and revealing. “Although the Economics course provides me with a solid theoretical foundation, I realize that the accounting and administrative aspects are what I use most in my daily work, especially in approaches that require objectivity and organization. I believe, however, that college prepares us for much more than just theory, teaching us to face challenges and develop essential life skills,” explains Vitória.
Balancing work and study isn't the easiest task, so, looking to the future, the Economics student is doing a self-analysis and can already see progress in her routine. “So far, I see my personal and professional development in a very positive way. Even though it's recent, I realize that this experience has been fundamental in teaching me how to optimize my time and set priorities. On a personal level, I hope this experience will also help me strengthen my emotional control in the face of pressure, such as that of exams at university,” the student reflects.
Amidst her routine of studies, work, and personal life, Vitória felt supported during moments that challenged her choice. “In my third semester, I went through an extremely difficult time that shook me in many ways. I faced personal and professional issues that even led me to give up an internship. During classes, I felt the weight of these difficulties and saw my emotions affected in a way I didn't expect. However, I received the necessary support from my family and also from the professors at ESEG, who helped me see the value of persevering,” the young woman recounts.
Vitória is very pleased with the start of her journey and the path she is following, and hopes that other students will follow similar paths. She offers advice to those who are just starting out: “Only those who never try or give up at the first obstacle fail. If you have faced difficulties and received 'no's', know that this is a sign to believe and keep trying. It is essential that you do your part and fight for what you want, not as a motivational speech, but as the reality of life,‘ concludes the Economics student.
Vitória's story shows us the importance of choosing a college that cares about its students' future and offers individual support to overcome challenges.
