Professional Journey: Economics Student Shares Her Daily Routine at GE Healthcare

In an academic journey intertwined with the pursuit of job opportunities, Mariana Pita Laureano, a second-semester Economics student at ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa, shares her experience of securing an internship at the renowned GE Healthcare, an American multinational medical technology company headquartered in Chicago.

Mariana, who started working at the company in early August 2023, is in the Commercial Controlling area, where she has learned a lot from the daily challenges. “It’s the first time I’ve worked for a multinational company. Large companies have their challenges and bureaucratic processes to understand, and that makes my professional experience very enriching,” the student points out.

The young woman highlights how the theoretical applications learned during her undergraduate studies are becoming practical activities in the performance of her duties at GE Healthcare. "Now I see the theory we learned in the classroom in practice. In my case, the Finance subjects have been essential for better understanding my role," she emphasizes.

For Mariana, the internship at a multinational company brought the need to develop language skills and proficiency in data analysis programs. “The daily use of languages like English and Spanish – whether in documents, emails, or communication with colleagues from other countries – helps me improve my conversational skills and become accustomed to other languages in my daily life, as well as integrate into new platforms. I also learned to be more proactive in programs like Excel, which has become a true daily partner,” says the student.

Securing an internship at GE Healthcare was the result of actively seeking opportunities during the holidays, but the student highlights the importance of ESEG in preparing her for the selection process. “Thanks to the actions of the ESEG Career Development Center, I became more interested in looking for internship positions, even though it was still at the end of my first semester. The team encouraged me and also helped improve my professional resume. And not only that! ESEG's support was essential for my performance during the selection process, since two months before the interviews began, I participated in a CDC workshop on selection processes, something crucial for my good presentation to GE Healthcare,” she says.

Mariana Laureano's story reflects not only her journey to success, but also serves as an inspiring example of how students at ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa – are being prepared to face the challenges of a competitive and dynamic job market.
