{"id":13007,"date":"2026-05-12T02:49:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eseg.edu.br\/noticia\/docente-holandes-ministra-palestra-sobre-negocios-internacionais-e-os-reflexos-das-guerras\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T14:30:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T17:30:22","slug":"dutch-professor-gives-lecture-on-international-business-and-the-repercussions-of-wars","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/eseg.edu.br\/en\/noticia\/docente-holandes-ministra-palestra-sobre-negocios-internacionais-e-os-reflexos-das-guerras\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch professor gives lecture on international business and the repercussions of wars."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Tuesday (November 7th), students from the Administration, Law, and Economics courses had the opportunity to attend the lecture \u201c<b>Current wars: reflection on the uncertainties<\/b>\u201d, conducted by <b>Visiting professor Edward Overes<\/b>, professor at the Faculty of International Business at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, in <b>Netherlands<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">The event, led by <b><a href=\"https:\/\/eseg.edu.br\/en\/home\/international\/\" target=\"_blank\">ESEG International<\/a><\/b> (The Faculty&#039;s internationalization area) allowed Professor Ed (as he likes to be called) to address the importance of international business for global economic evolution, as well as the implications that ongoing wars have for business predictability.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">According to his analysis, the <b>international trade<\/b> made it possible to create a <b>global supply chain<\/b> very effective and efficient, guaranteeing access to a vast variety of products in all countries. However, at the same time, companies had to learn to deal with various <b>risks involved <\/b>This process includes economic, cultural, and political risks that directly affect businesses.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">A practical example of this is the current ongoing wars, such as <b>Russia vs. Ukraine<\/b> e <b>Israel vs. Hamas<\/b>. &quot;Turbulent markets often make hasty and emotionally driven decisions, which can lead to widespread chaos and increased costs, such as energy, inflation, supplies, etc.,&quot; notes the international professor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Professor Ed explained that <b>mature markets<\/b> like the <b>European<\/b> they were fully accustomed to <b>stability<\/b>, due to a long period of peace experienced in recent decades. However, the <b>triggering of conflicts<\/b>, right after a pandemic period, brought a lot <b>uncertainty <\/b>and a degree of <b>instability<\/b> which created an extremely difficult scenario for the leaders of that continent to manage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">With this, the <b>emerging countries<\/b>, who know how to deal very well with <b>vulnerabilities<\/b>, they acquired a good <b>competitive advantage<\/b>. &quot;The people of South America, for example, always have a solution available, an alternative for things that might go wrong. They always plan scenarios with plans A, B, or C. However, we in Europe only have plan A and we don&#039;t know what to do immediately when the scenario is unstable and the plan changes,&quot; emphasized Professor Ed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">He referred to this behavior as <b>resilience<\/b>, &quot;Resilience is the ability to withstand difficulties but not be defeated.
