The Business Communication Meeting is organized by students under the guidance of Professor Karlene Campos, PhD.<\/i><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Last Saturday, May 22nd, the 26th Business Communication Meeting of ESEG \u2013 Faculdade do Grupo Etapa \u2013 took place. The event, organized by students during the Business Communication course, was held online and featured the participation of guest professors Virginia Prestes and Sandra Terciotti, who gave presentations and were part of the evaluation panel.<\/p>\n

Virginia Prestes holds a Master's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and has nearly 10 years of experience in the financial market. She lectured on Personal Finance to students of Business Administration, Economics, and Production Engineering. The professor indicated that the reasons why we need to better understand our money are to "achieve consumption goals, avoid high debt, plan for financial independence, and live well, which means having balance in personal life." Virginia challenged the audience with the question: "Do I work to live or live to work?".<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be financially healthy, we need to spend less than we earn, save part of our resources, and invest to multiply them. Furthermore, we need to be prepared for adversity and allow ourselves to enjoy pleasures in a planned way. Therefore, we must manage our finances,\u201d he concludes.<\/p>\n

Sandra Terciotti holds a doctorate in Literature and is a specialist in Business Communication. Her lecture addressed the role of communication in financial education. "In short, the concept of financial education is a set of healthy financial habits that contribute to improving the lives of individuals, families, and the country's economy," stated the professor.<\/p>\n

              <\/p>\n

\u201c"The main actors in financial education are: the family, as part of the example; the school, to reinforce learning; and the media, with websites, apps, social networks, and news." To conclude, Sandra Terciotti states: "The financial planning provided by financial education should aim for quality of life, in order to guarantee material security and the conditions for a happy life and a comfortable retirement.".<\/p>\n

The students were divided into five groups to discuss the topics of "The Country's Economic Reality," "The Impact of Consumerism on Personal Finances," "Financial Planning," "Investing without expert assistance," and "Investing with expert assistance.".<\/p>\n

Composed of Guilherme Santana, Kayque Santos, Paulo Lopes, Matheus Erustes, and Matheus Haas, the first group discussed aspects of the country's economy and the profile of Brazilians, talked about benchmark indices and their relationship to investments. In addition, they also mentioned the difference between financial education and financial intelligence.<\/p>\n

              <\/p>\n

The second group discussed which aspects of consumerism can impact financial life, highlighting the difference between consumption and consumerism. Fl\u00e1via Goto, Lilia Yu, Matheus Salemi, and Pedro Silva spoke about aspects of conscious consumption, which involves making purchases with a view to their environmental, social, and financial impact.<\/p>\n

Aline Viana, Enzo Giovannetti, Lucas Corr\u00eaa, Mariana Cavalcanti, and Sophia Shin discussed what financial planning is and its importance. The group used a fictional example of a 25-year-old to illustrate the need to set goals, have financial security during crises, and offered tips for financial planning.<\/p>\n

              <\/p>\n

\u201c"Investing Without Expert Assistance" covered investments in variable and fixed income, explained how stocks and the stock market work, and offered investment tips. Caio Barreto, Gabriel Queiroz, Rayan Pereira, and Pedro Borchis also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of investing without an expert.<\/p>\n

The topic of "Investing with the help of a specialist" was addressed by students Alan Sousa, Arthur Mafra, Camila Leyton, Leonardo Aguri, P\u00e2mela Gon\u00e7alves, and Vit\u00f3ria Pimenta. They presented an overview of the current economy, the difficulties of investing, the role of a financial advisor, examples of investments, types of investors, and the advantages and disadvantages of investing with the help of an advisor. In addition, the group conducted a survey with 70 people to understand their relationship with investments, and the majority had never made an investment due to a lack of sufficient knowledge.<\/p>\n

The evaluation panel was composed of the following professors: Carlos Cerqueira, Fernando Umezu, Karlene Campos, Marcelo Dias, Sandra Terciotti, Silvia Boarin, and Virginia Prestes.<\/p>\n

The 26th edition of the Business Communication Meeting aimed to provide guidance on how decisions involving money impact people's quality of life.
