Completing an internship during undergraduate studies is a valuable way for students to put all the knowledge gained in their field of study into practice. In addition to providing a unique and real-world experience, it increases the chances of being hired by the company where they work or even seeking other, better career opportunities.
Another advantage of this type of work is the knowledge it provides, which can help with academic performance, project development, and better results in classroom work.
At ESEG – Faculdade do Grupo Etapa, all courses require a mandatory internship. Therefore, it is essential for students to have academic support during their undergraduate studies to guide their decisions, choices, and career paths.
One of ESEG's distinguishing features is offering students individualized support through its department of... Student Support, which includes Career Development Center (CDC). Among various assignments, events, and projects, connecting students with their ideal internship is one of its goals. Therefore, from the beginning of their university journey, students receive guidance to identify their initial professional interests and, subsequently, they obtain all the necessary support during selection processes, interviews, and group dynamics.
According to the Undergraduate Coordinator, Professor Marcelo D. Carvalho, completing an internship is of fundamental importance for several reasons. “The internship provides the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in real work situations. This allows students to develop practical skills and gain relevant experience in their field of study. It also offers the chance to learn skills and knowledge that complement what is learned in the classroom,” he emphasizes.
Internships during their undergraduate studies give students the chance to familiarize themselves with the processes, technologies, and tools used in the job market, thus broadening their academic training. This allows them to establish contacts with professionals in the field, colleagues, and potential mentors. These connections can be valuable in the future, providing job opportunities, references, or guidance.
Marcelo states that internships allow students to get a glimpse into the day-to-day work in their field of interest, helping them confirm whether it's truly a good fit and aligned with their expectations, or if they need to reassess and consider other options. “Many companies use internship programs as a way to recruit future talent. In the end, if the student excels and demonstrates skills and commitment, there's a good chance they'll be hired by the company after graduation.”.
For Simone Bortoletto, coordinator of Student Support, the internship is an enriching experience during graduation. “This type of program allows students to put into practice the content and concepts they learn in the classroom. This is how they will experience work routines and, from that, can decide which area, field, and area of work they want for their career,” she emphasizes.
From the classroom to the job market.
Would you like to understand a little more about the ESEG sector that assists students in all processes in their pursuit of a successful career?
Student Support fosters comprehensive preparation for professional and personal challenges. Students are encouraged to discover their full potential through a series of activities and events.
Within the Support area, there is the Career Development Center (CDC). This sector connects students and alumni to the job market. This is achieved through the weekly dissemination of job openings and the organization of events that facilitate networking and prepare students for selection processes in private and public companies. The initiative focuses on developing individuals so that they are prepared for professional challenges.
Throughout the school year, CDC conducts a series of activities aimed at students. “Weekly, we share job opportunities and internships, both for our students and alumni. The emails are accompanied by reflections aimed at the personal, professional, and academic development of our readers. We have also developed partnerships with large companies that, in addition to advertising their vacancies with us, allow students to experience the corporate world,” says Simone.
Another initiative carried out by Apoio is Simula ESEG – Public Careers and Private Careers editions – a workshop that prepares students for the job market, addressing topics such as resume writing, use of social media, maximizing results, searching for opportunities, and simulating selection processes. The event also features professionals from various sectors to present the reality of the professions and clarify any doubts.
Throughout their academic journey, students also have access to individualized support. "We aim to address topics related to decision-making processes, key factors for securing employment, time management, how to maximize professional results, and how to boost academic performance," emphasizes Simone.
And how does all this work reflect on the students? Through their success in the professional field.
Vitor Neri de Miranda, an Economics undergraduate, is one of these students. Currently, he is doing an internship in Global Supply Chain at Flexform. For him, the support he received from the Student Support Center was fundamental to his entry into the job market. “The CDC was a key element in my development in finding the internship. The area coordinator, Simone, was essential in this achievement, in addition to all the advanced content that the course has provided for my solid training. Therefore, I am very grateful for what ESEG has provided me so far,” he emphasizes.
For Marcelo D. Carvalho, completing an internship during undergraduate studies is essential for gaining practical experience, developing skills, establishing contacts in the job market, and confirming the choice of field of work. "The internship is a valuable opportunity for students to prepare for the professional world and increase their chances of success after graduation, something we closely observe here at ESEG, and we have every reason to celebrate," he notes.
In addition to opportunities for students to enter the national job market, ESEG also maintains partnerships with several... international institutions for exchange programs and internships abroad.
